Forests are not the first thing that comes to mind when you think about food security. Sure, it’s fun to go mushroom picking, but otherwise what is the big deal about the role of forests in food security?

Forests have a pivotal role for sustainable water supply in many ways. In drier climates, wastewater treatment can benefit from forests and forest can benefit from the use of treated wastewater. Treated wastewater is generally returned to waterways downstream, eventually entering our oceans.

Call for Abstracts for FLARE 2017

The 3rd annual meeting of the Forests and Livelihoods: Assessment, Research, and Engagement, FLARE network will take place in Stockholm in the end of September 2017. The meeting will provide a unique space for discussions about forests and livelihoods and will foster collaboration, favouring younger researchers.

Lisa Westholm, Focali member and PhD candidate in rural development at Swedish Agricultural University (SLU), will organize a panel at next year’s IUFRO forestry congress in Freiburg, Germany. The theme for the 2017 congress is “Interconnecting Forests, Science and People”.
