PhD student position in Sustainability and leakage in beef & soy supply chains in South America

The research associated to this PhD position focuses on understanding the role that agricultural commodity supply chain sustainability initiatives, such as certification schemes, moratoria, voluntary corporate commitments and government regulations, play in reducing the clearance forests and other ecosystems in the tropics.

One-third of all edible food produced is lost or wasted each year. The UN’s proposed Sustainable Development Goal 12 aims at a 50% reduction in food waste per capita at the retail and consumer level and includes general recommendation on reducing food losses along production and supply chains, including post-harvest losses.

Agriculture and Rural Development Day (ARDD) at Rio+20: Learning Event 9

This 9th learning event at the ARDD showcased the value wise crop choices for more nutritious food as well as the value of nutrient cycling in crop production. Using case studies from Niger and the Philippines the ‘case to scale’ effect different parts of the loop were demonstrated.
