Call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) – Analyze the Current Narrative On Food Security And Food Systems In Africa

Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA)

The Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA), supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), invites qualified individuals or firms to submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) for a study analyzing the current narrative on food security and food systems in Africa. This initiative, part of the “Transforming the African Food System to Sustainability (TAFS) – My Food is African Project,” aims to inspire African citizens to demand and consume healthy and culturally appropriate food supported by favorable policies by 2026. We seek candidates with a strong understanding of African food systems and cultural contexts, advanced degrees in relevant fields, and proven experience in comprehensive research and analysis.

The study’s objectives include investigating public perceptions and challenges regarding food security and systems in Africa, identifying prevalent misconceptions, and comparing diverse food systems approaches. Key deliverables are a detailed report on the current narrative, comparative analysis of different food systems and producing advocacy publications, illustrations, and documentaries to support advocacy for traditional African food systems, diets, and cuisines. The consultant will employ mixed-methods research, including desk reviews, surveys, interviews, media analysis, and participation in AFSA workshops.

Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest (1-2 pages), a short technical proposal (2-4 pages), and a general profile with evidence of previous work and CV(s) to afsa@afsafrica.org by 5:00 pm (East Africa Time) on Sunday, July 28, 2024. The email should indicate ‘AFSA_Food Narrative Study’ in the subject line.
