African Indigenous Seed & Food Fair

This continental event builds on the PELUM Association’s 28 years of experience promoting the production and consumption of Indigenous food in the different countries of Eastern and Southern Africa. Annual National Indigenous Food and Seed Fairs/ Festivals are one of the key interventions that PELUM Association county chapters have used over the years to raise awareness of the multiple values of Indigenous seed and food. These festivals have been cascaded from national to District and other lower levels in different communities by Member Organisations of the PELUM Association.

The 3 days Continental Indigenous Food and Seed Fair organised under the Theme: Discover the Treasures of African Indigenous Seed and Food will bring together over 500 participants, including small-scale farmers, the private sector, processors, Chefs, CSOs, regional policymakers, the media, academia, and other stakeholders from different regions in Africa. The major aim is to share and exchange knowledge and information on the value of African Indigenous Seed and Food in transforming the African Food system. Small scale farmers and entrepreneurs will showcase the best practices in production, post-harvest management and value addition innovations on the indigenous foods. Alongside this, a policy dialogue for small-scale farmers and regional legislators is convened for farmers to advocate for the recognition of the Farmer Managed Seed System, among other pressing topics.
