At the core of SIANI is a dedicated secretariat, based at the Stockholm Environment Institute, SLU and GMV in Sweden.
Programme Director at SIANI
Madeleine Fogde holds a broad background within the educational field. Before joining SEI, Madeleine worked during two decades with programme development, information dissemination, capacity development and adult learning in Southern Africa with focus on Mozambique. Her experience with capacity development ranges from illiterate women in remote rural areas to politicians at central positions. At SEI Madeleine has directed Sida financed Research, Outreach and Development program like the EcoSanRes program 2007-2011 and SIANI 2011 to present. She covers a wide range of topics, including sanitation, sustainable agriculture, food security, poverty alleviation, water supply, and women’s rights. She is part of a major worldwide network for agriculture, sanitation, and women’s organizations. <br /> In 2015, Madeleine was appointed as a fellow (member) of the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry. In 2023 Madeleine was appointed honorary doctor at SLU's Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences. Madeleine is now a member of the Swedish FAO committee, the board of the World Wildlife Fund in Sweden and the board of Vi Agroforestry.<br /> In 2015, Madeleine was appointed as a fellow (member) of the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry. In 2023 Madeleine was appointed appointed honorary doctor at SLU's Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences. Madeleine is now a member of the Swedish FAO committee
Project Manager at SIANI
Currently the project coordinator of Focali (Forest, Climate and Livelihood Research Network) and project coordinator of LARRI (Land Rights Research Initiative) working at GMV – Centre for Environment and Sustainability in Gothenburg. Master degree from School of Global Studies and a B.A in Development and International Cooperation, from University of Gothenburg. Master thesis field research about pastoralists’ livelihoods, socio-ecological resilience, climate change and land investments in the Afar region of Ethiopia. Work experience as a research assistant in research project about the role of trees for local livelihoods, resilience and food-security in Burkina Faso. Work experience as communication officer, lecturer in participatory field methods and as a freelance journalist. Has in addition rich work and study experience related to development cooperation from Ethiopia, Tanzania and Vietnam.
Engagement Officer at SIANI
Marta Anguera works at SEI Headquarters as an Engagement Officer. Marta has a background in journalism and communication. She has worked as a communications assistant and officer for civil society organizations as well as international and European institutions. Her experience includes developing communication tools and activities, assisting the communication of partnership and research projects, over-sighting of social media, websites, stakeholder mapping, design of publications and events management. Marta has previously lived in Spain, Austria, Italy, France and Belgium.
Associate at SIANI
Alice Tunfjord is an Associate at SEI Headquarters. She works with MEL and our Expert groups. She has experience from civil society, research institutes and the public sector, including the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the Swedish Development Forum, and most recently the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR). Alice holds a MSc in International Development and Management from Lund University, and a bachelor’s degree in Development Studies from Uppsala University. She wrote her master’s thesis on the interplay between formal and informal institutions in the Zambian woodfuel sector.
Part time communications officer at SIANI based at SLU at SIANI
Alin is a part time communication officer at SIANI based at SLU. She holds a PhD in Environmental Social Science, investigating coastal transformation processes in a peri-urban fishing village outside of Mangaluru, India. Alin is a researcher at the Department of Rural and Urban Development, SLU. Her current research explores labour rights in sustainable fishing policy as a global environmental governance mechanism, using Thailand and Myanmar as case studies. Alin has experienced doing research in West Africa, South Asia and South-East Asia. Alin desires to continue addressing the growing questions of sustainability, where the interactions between society and environment require further and in-depth understanding.
Research Fellow at SEI
Selorm Kugbega works at SEI headquarters as a research fellow. He holds a PhD in Human Geography from Lund University and has experience working with economic policy analysis and SDG localisation with UNDP in Ghana. Selorm’s research focuses on the nexus between property rights, agrarian livelihoods and social differentiation. He explores these perspectives by considering value-chain dynamics tied to smallholder commercialisation and structural transformation processes. Selorm has great interest in continuing to address and incite discussions around the geography of agrarian social relations, smallholder market linkages and the contributions of frontier technologies to agricultural sustainability.
Project Coordinator at SIANI
Jonna Wiklund is a project coordinator at SEI headquarters working with SIANI’s Expert groups. She has previous experience of working with international development projects in civil society, and most recently with policy for sustainable food systems at an environmental organisation. Jonna is an agronomist with an MSc in soil science from the Swedish University of Agriculture (SLU). She wrote her master’s thesis on the effects of wood ash on soil fertility in Kenya.
Communication and impact officer at SEI
Maria Sköld is a Senior Communications and Impact Officer at SEI headquarters. She supports general SIANI communication activities as well as the communication of the expert group. Before joining SEI, Maria was a Senior Communications Manager at Stockholm International Water Institute and World Water Week. As an editor and strategist, she developed messaging and advocacy campaigns for different teams and international processes. She is especially passionate about how communication can be a tool to increase impact and inclusion. Maria started her career as a journalist, specialising in Swedish politics, and has also reported from Central America and Southeast Asia.
Part time associate at at SIANI based at SLU
Theresé is a research assistant at the Department of Urban and Rural Development at SLU. She is involved in different research projects where her main focus is on carbon forestry. She has a bachelor degree in Geography from Uppsala University. Her thesis investigated Vietnam’s national REDD+ policy and how the perceptions of it differed on different levels. She has a master’s degree in Rural Development and Natural Resource Management from SLU. Her master thesis focus on communication flows and hegemonies within a carbon forestry project in Tanzania. Theresé have experience in education and currently works with different courses at SLU, and have previously worked as a course coordinator at the Center for Environment and Development Studies (CEMUS). Theresé joined SIANI in October 2023 and work mainly with events organized by SLU Global.
Research Associate at SEI
Aziliz Le Rouzo is a Research Associate at SEI Headquarters. Her background is in environmental management, economics and policy with a strong interest in food systems transformation and agroecology. Her research experience spans from digitalization in Swedish agroecological contexts to nature-based solutions for coastal adaptation and financing of climate-neutral cities. Prior to joining SEI, Aziliz worked as an Innovation and Research Analyst at Cleantech Scandinavia with a focus on private investment trends in Nordic and Baltic clean technologies.<br /> Aziliz holds a M.Sc. in Environmental Management and Policy from the International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics in Lund. Her master’s thesis investigated the re-design of common extensive green roofs through a full life cycle cost-benefit analysis. Prior to that, Aziliz graduated from HEC Montréal with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Administration, majoring in Applied Economics.
Project Coordinator at SIANI
She supports general SIANI communication, expert groups, events, administration and other projects. Previously, Ebba did an internship at SIANI during the spring of 2024. She has a BSc in Peace and Development Studies from Uppsala University, and she wrote her bachelor thesis on the integration between Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation, with a focus on Nepal. She has experience volunteering as the Head of Marketing in the FUF local group in Uppsala and has spent an exchange semester abroad in Seoul, South Korea.
Intern at SIANI
She supports SIANI Communication, events, coordination with expert groups, and other projects. Furthermore, she is studying for her Master's in Global Studies at Jönköping University. With experience coordinating projects for vulnerable communities affected by climate crises during her time at the United Nations World Food Programme, she developed skills in project planning and strategic communication. She is from Bolivia and came to Sweden thanks to a scholarship from the Swedish Institute for Global Professionals to grow academically and professionally, committed to fostering inclusive and sustainable solutions.
