Agroecology Day: Ecosystem resilience for farm resilience

This year's Agroecology Day will focus on how to enhance small-scale farm resilience through improved soil health and pest control.

Participatory action learning could prepare students with required competencies in the face of challeneges for sustainable agrifood systems, as shown in one of the twelve NextFood case studies in Agroecology master's course at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences. Photo: Martin Melin.

This year, the Agroecology Day is welcoming Pablo Tittonell in the panel discussion. Accompanied by Teun Dekker (SLU) and introduced by Aneth David (University of Dar es Salam), the symposium will focus on small-scale farm resilience by addressing issues in the favorisation of the soil microbiota, the implementation of pest control management and the general improvement of both the below and above soil biodiversity through farm practices.

A roundtable animated by Alnarp’s Agroecology Farm will then take place with other local small-scale farmers. This will be the occasion to get hands-on, concrete examples on how to bring a farming system towards more resilience on a day-to-day basis.
