The regional event will be organized by Mekong Institute in partnership with Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), New Zealand Aid Programme and Pha Khao Lao. The overall objective of the 2-day workshop and forum is to strengthen policy actions towards agrobiodiversity mainstreaming in regional GESI policies and initiatives for sustainable food systems (SFS) in Southeast Asia.
The event is expected to advance action-oriented policies related to Aichi Targets (14 and 18) and SDGs 2 (Zero Hunger) and 5 (Gender Equality). In this regard, the workshop and forum objectives are to:
- strengthen understanding among regional policy bodies and organizations on the impact of agro-biodiversity loss on food security of women and indigenous communities against the backdrop of climate vulnerabilities;
- strengthen understanding on the role of women and indigenous communities as custodians of agro-biodiversity and advancing Aichi Targets;
- consolidate recommendations for regional policy bodies and organizations on entry points in mainstreaming agro-biodiversity in regional and national policies and initiatives related to gender equality and social inclusion.
