Varje år ordnar FN:s livsmedels- och jordbruksorganisation (FAO) aktiviteter på World Food Day.

A growing population needs an increasing amount of food and energy. Due to global climate change and volatile fossil fuel prices, bioenergy production attracts more and more attention and investment.

Matthew Fielding and Madeleine Fogde from SIANI participated in the Swedish Delegation to the Committee on World Food Security CFS 40 in Rome  October 7-11. The CFS is the most important intergovernmental and multi-stakeholder platform to follow up on food security and nutrition policies .

16th of October is the World Food Day. First celebrated in 1979, it is also the anniversary of FAO's founding. The theme of the day is announced at the beginning of each year by the FAO, this initiative is meant to facilitate better understanding of the problems and solutions to ending hunger.

Presented at the Agri4D 2013 conference at the session on Pre/Post-harvest Losses – Including Post-harvest Handling and Storage.

Substantial pre- and post-harvest losses occur as a result of inefficiencies of the agricultural value chain. Reducing losses caused by pest destruction, inefficient storage, and crop contamination would directly contribute to greater food security. One of the sessions at the Agri4D Conference was devoted to this particular issue.
