In 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic has forced and inspired SIANI to move events and dialogues online. This changed the mode of our work but allowed for more people across the world to participate in our events and workshops. Our activities now attract hundreds of participants, the majority from the Global South. This development has allowed SIANI to enhance the sharing of knowledge and engagement with organisations and actors working closer to SIANI beneficiaries.
Young people are likely to suffer severe and long-lasting impacts from the pandemic. It has been particularly hard on young women, adolescents and young people living in low-income countries. The effective inclusion of rural youth was one of the thematic focuses of SIANI during 2020. This topics was discussed at the annual SIANI Members’ Meeting in Stockholm in January 2020, and fed into the work of the network throughout the year.
“SIANI should create space and opportunity for youth to engage in decision-making,” – a suggestion by our members during the SIANI annual meeting in January 2020, Stockholm.
