In a world where enough food is produced to feed all the people on Earth, how can we make sure that providing food security for all becomes a reality and what challenges lie ahead?
As part of the World Food Day celebrations 2022, the Swedish Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Committee and the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry (KSLA) are hosting a webinar on the 28th of October. Covering the themes “food security in trying times” and “from challenges to opportunities – how to ensure no one is left behind”, the seminar aims to highlight the importance of multisector cooperation to achieve the SDG 2 of zero hunger.
The latest FAO issue on the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2022 dismiss any lingering doubts that the world is facing enormous challenges in its efforts to end hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition. Although progress has been made, many people around the world are left behind. With less than a decade away from 2030, reaching many of the SDG 2 targets is growing more difficult. Feeding all the people on Earth is not only a supply issue. The issue also lies with access and availability to nutritious food. Multiple challenges halt the progress, including the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change, conflict, rising prices and inequality. 80 percent of the world’s poor Relying on agriculture and natural resources for sustenance. They are also the ones who are most effected by the challenges to food security. In the face of a more challenging and uncertain future, multisector cooperation will be necessary to reach the goal of leaving no one behind.
