Providing sufficient food for a growing world population and achieving a more sustainable development is one of today’s global challenges. The increasing demand for new agricultural land and agricultural intensification often leads to ecosystem degradation, deforestation and biodiversity loss in many parts of the world, particularly in tropical areas. Studies of traditional multistrata agroforestry systems suggest that there is potential to curb deforestation and to enable the sustainable management of forest landscapes. This fact, in its turn, lead to an increase in the scientific and political interest in agroforestry systems in the past years.

About the workshop:
The workshop will be an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to share information about current research and projects with each other and with a wider audience of research and policy stakeholders interested in agroforestry. During the workshop we will discuss the potentials and limitations of agroforestry as means to support forest conservation, increase productivity and address livelihoods challenges.

There are no costs for the participants, lunch and coffee will be provided. Please note however that the number of participants will be limited to 30. There is a possibility to participate in the workshop both as a presenter and as a listener. If you want to register as a participant, or have any questions, please contact Torsten Krause.

Submission of Abstracts:
Contributions should relate to the workshop themes and be submitted in the form of an abstract of up to 300 words. To present at the workshop please send abstracts by the 2nd of May to Torsten Krause.
