Addressing Food Security and Land Right Challenges in Latin America

An annex to the report Environmental and Climate Justice, and the Dynamics of Violence in Latin America: Perspectives from a Regional Working Group on Climate Change, the Environment, Peace and Security in Latin America. Read it in English or Spanish.

Learn more about the most pressing issues for food security in Latin America in this paper from SIANI’s expert group on Land Rights in Latin America. The document, available on both English and Spanish, is an annex to the report Environmental and Climate Justice, and the Dynamics of Violence in Latin America.

The annex explores why nearly 40 percent of the Latin American population are affected by moderate to severe food insecurity. It provides a snapshot of underlying causes such as the adverse impacts of large agroindustrial companies and the erosion of land rights. These interconnected challenges threaten food security, sovereignty and sustainability in the region, particularly for indigenous and rural communities.
