Environmental and Climate Justice, and the Dynamics of Violence in Latin America

Perspectives from a Regional Working Group on Climate Change, the Environment, Peace and Security in Latin America

How is climate change impacting food security in Latin America and what is the link to violence? The drivers are described in this report which builds on discussion within SIANI’s expert group on Land Rights in Latin America and research from Caroline Delgado, Farah Hegazi and Anniek Barnhoorn at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.

SIPRI and Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) supports the group which consists of 20 experts from 10 Latin American countries. Together they raise awareness of the complex links between food insecurity, land conflicts and governance. They are also formulating a regional response to this escalating crisis.

For a more in-debt description of the food crisis, explore the report’s Annex A, Addressing Food Security and Land Right Challenges in Latin America.
